Insurance Repair & Restoration of 'Jack' The Vintage Tug

As can be seen from close examination of the first few photos, Jack took a tumble from shelf to floor and sustained several areas of damage.

Jack was a favourite vintage model of a customer of HRD, and resided in a commercial office suite in Hastings, along with several other treasured pieces. Jack was accidentally bumped from its shelf by cleaning staff and fell a metre or so to the floor. This resulted in an insurance claim to restore Jack and HRD was commissioned to do the work.

The most important thing to our client was that the patina and the naive way this model was presented was not lost in its restoration. All paint finishes that needed to be redone, due to the repairs, had to have the aged patina maintained or replicated. The timber, which was old and brittle and cracked in places, due to impact with the floor, needed to be carefully reglued filled and repainted while keeping the old looks of a treasured friend intact.

All the loose fittings lost in the tumble were refixed and the model was cleaned and returned looking new-old!

Our client was very happy to see Jack again back in pride of place in his office.
