A customer of HRD, whose grandfather was a sea captain and later a Harbour Master, commissioned us to clean his grandfather's optical equipment and remove verdigris and dust which had built up over the time the items had been stored in a less than optimal environment prior to his receiving them. He actually remembered playing with these items as a child when visiting his grandfather.
Once they were cleaned and protected from further deterioration he also wanted us to design and construct a suitable piece of furniture to display them in his home. We agreed on the units concept, and some sketches were made in the style of a ships binnacle from a period sailing ship, to be made from a timber of his choice.
The items were carefully individually dismantled, cleaned, reassembled again and housed in a more suitable way, till the completion of their display unit.
